Angel Wings

Sunday, December 9, 2012

When I laid eyes on these Angel Wings on Dawn's blog I loved them and knew I wanted to try them. Wellll, I ordered the tutorial, check! and then I cut out the pattern, check! everything is going well so far, glued them together, check! cut and tore the strips of muslin, so far I'm crusin and then I started gluing and pinching the fabric to create the ruffles UH Oh, this did not go well for me. I have met my craft nemesis! making ruffles by gluing and pinching... uh no.  When I went from one pinch to the next the fabric would come up and move arrrgh, I just could not find my rhythm making those ruffles. On top of that I kinda glued my fingers together  and then the rows did not line up well.  Needless to say My copycat wings are jacked up! Here are mine,

Here are Dawn's

Big difference and not in a good way. Thanks Dawn for the great tutorial, I'm sorry I jacked it up LOL, I'm not giving up though, I will try again. Click here for a better copy cat inspired by Jeane d' Arc living.  Joining,

  1. Give yourself a little bit of credit on that...I think they are pretty. You just need to spread your wings a little:) HA..get it? Thanks for sharing with the party.

  2. Karen, IF you weren't comparing them to the model you would not be disappointed. I think they look great. I hate that gluing and pinching crap, too. AND using a hot glue gun I can't tell you how many layers of fingers I have fried. I think you did pretty danged good! xo Diana

  4. I think they look amazing! I am not one to pinch and glue--I think I may try these the old fashioned way. Sometimes sewing is easier! I love yours..and the rhinestone pin is gorgeous!

  5. I think they are beautiful Karen!!!! It is a messy process but I was trying to make them so those who can't sew could create them as well :) try one more pair now that you've done these, I promise, it will be easier and faster!!! hugs and love, Dawn

  6. Soulfully beautiful.
I love them, there are no mistaking the beauty in your creating, sometimes the little imperfection in what we create adds soul the it's out come.
    These are wings to love.

  11. I'm with everyone else on here: they look great. Hot glued pleats is my biggest reason for not trying the ruffled Christmas tree skirt I keep seeing on Pinterest. You are brave!! Kudos!!

  12. Thank you Karen for your beautiful visit. Karen I still stand firm on telling you the truth here, your wings soar with grace and beauty!
If both were on etsy, I would not know which ones to choose. :) and they might have ended up yours due to the full fluffy-ness! Such a hard call!

    See you soon,
    Xx

  13. Your angel wings look great to me... I'm equally frustrated with gluing and pinching, and tend to end up throwing things across the room (or feel like it anyway) Great Job!

  19. Your wings are lovely...and your very first pair!!!
Do you know Dawn's wings may not have been perfect either the first time??

    So, try it again.
It took me a bit to get the hang of it too.

I also did lace wings right away, and they were fun and easy cause lace was already gathered.

I have pictures o my page if you want to see them.
And I think Dawn has done lace ones now too....

But don't give up!! OK?? =)

  22. Not to worry...not all angels are created perfect. I think that yours are pretty darn awesome and I definitely don't see where they look jacked up. You are probably your own worst critic...lol.
