Bathroom Mirror Frame

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Since we're redoing the bathroom I thought I might put a mirror over the sink instead of the medicine cabinet. I've been looking in thrift stores and found nothing, then I remembered an unfinished frame that I bought a looooong time ago that was just hanging around in my closet.

I started out with this frame and these ornamental wood carvings.

I cut the wood carvings apart and  glued them to the frame. Then I painted the frame with turquoise paint and after that was dry I brushed over a thin coat of white paint. I sanded the white paint back to allow the turquoise to peek through, heavily in some places and lighter in others. Here' s a closeup of the finish. I couldn't capture the colors in the far shots.

To add another texture and highlight I added a little silver effects wax  to the raised areas. Now I need to have glass cut for the frame. It may or may not make it to the bathroom.

Thanks for stopping by, I'll be joining these great ladies this week.

  3. Very pretty, Karen! Love the appliques. They are such a great way to dress up so many different things. I just painted a couple I had here {won them about 4 years ago!} to add to a bench I bought last week. I'm literally waiting for the wood glue to dry on one side so I can flip it and do the other side. : )
