A Final Goodbye

Hello friends, last Saturday my family and I held a memorial to celebrate the life of our beloved mother. It was a beautiful tribute to her. There were many heartfelt testimonials to mom from friends and family. We played her favorite music and served  the foods and treats she loved best. There was video of mom and family photos streaming throughout the memorial. It was our hope that everyone would leave feeling her love and spirit and not sadness. We were able to accomplish just that. Everyone remarked that they felt so much better after the service... the heaviness of grief was lifted, we were so happy for that. Mom's passion was gardening and she had one of the most beautiful gardens I've ever seen. In remembrance of her love of gardening we gave everyone a packet of Forget me Not seeds to plant in her memory. I made all of the floral arrangements for the memorial. I didn't photograph the actual arrangements but I did make some bouquets from the flowers that were left. Moms favorite colors were blue and white so we decorated in those colors.  I just want to share with all  of you some of the flowers from her memorial.

The centerpieces were mostly blue hydrangeas and white roses. I made these bouquets from the extra flowers.

I used hydrangeas roses and star of Bethlehem on the memory table.   Mom loved flowers, so I just wanted to share these with all of you as a tribute to mom and as a way of thanking all of you again for your kindness. I have been very busy these last few weeks with the planning of the memorial. I haven't had much time for projects. I hope to be back and joining in as many Spring linky parties as possible.  Love to you all, back soon!

  1. Karen,
Oh my gosh, my Mother passed away on the 7th. It has been the worst month of my life. I am so, so sorry. We tried to make our memorial as happy as we could too. Actually I think we did it. People have been sending cards saying what a nice time they had.
I miss my Mom so much. I'm here if you need an ear.

  17. What a wonderful celebration of your mother's life. I think the seeds were a really thoughtful, and touching, gesture, and they will be a reminder of her for so many years to come. A friend of mine died very unexpectedly a few years back, and I planted a shrub, bearing her name, in our garden. It always makes me smile when I see it, and reminds me of the happy times we had. I know the people you gave the seeds to will be able to feel this way in time.
The flower pics you posted are so beautiful.

  25. Karen, The flowers and your arrangements are beautiful. Reading what you wrote made me wish that my siblings and I had been able to do have a memorial for my mom instead of the traditional funeral. But we were so heavy with grief that we didn't think or plan that far. Others did most of it for us. What a lovely thing to do in your mom's memory. The seeds are such a sweet and special touch.
    Love and hugs, Cindy
