A Box For The Remotes and A Tulipiere

Tuesday, June 11, 2013

I don't know about you guys, but at my house one of the most commonly heard phrases is, wheres the remote?

I decided to corral them in a box. Keeping them in one place will make it easier for us to keep up with them (hopefully). I bought a bunch of cigar boxes at goodwill and transformed  one to hold the remotes. Here is a picture of the box before,

The boxes are pretty in their original state and they  have a lovely cedar aroma. However I needed  the box to fit in with my decor so I did this to it,

I started by painting on three coats of a white gesso and paint mixture, then after it was dry I transferred a framed roman bust image that I purchased from etsy. I transferred the image using TAP transfer paper. It's an artist transfer paper that you can iron on to many surfaces. I purchased mine from Amazon. I haven't seen it in the local craft stores. I stamped on a border of flowers and leaves in the corners and around the sides. I waxed the box with a coat of clear wax and then a coat of wax that I tinted gray with pigment. I wiped it back then sanded the whole box to distress it. I sanded the stamped borders and the image heavily to give it a worn appearance.

I lined the inside with an old PDR circa 1960.  A Physicians Desk reference is a book of commonly used medications, their chemical components, and side effects. The graphics are really interesting and it had a pretty aged patina.

I also wanted to share another good will gem.

The Tulipiere,

It had a pattern on it that I hated so I spray painted it white. I'm looking forward to adding flowers to it over the summer. In my haste to paint it I didn't take a before picture. Thanks for stopping by. I'll be joining these ladies this week.

  4. Nice makeover on the box and I like your thinking, Karen! I also picked up a thrift store box {no top} to hold all our remotes. It just seems so much neater when they are corraled.
