Another Goodbye

Thursday, April 26, 2012

Hello everyone, It is with great sorrow that I must tell you that my father has passed away. As most of you know we lost our mother three short months ago. It was shortly after my mothers passing that we learned my father was keeping a secret. We learned that he was terminally ill. He didn't tell anyone, not even my mother knew. It was only when the pain became unbearable and he was rushed to the hospital several weeks ago that  we learned just how sick he was.  Hospice workers helped us manage his pain and care for him, and someone from the family was always with him. Thankfully his last weeks were mostly pain free. He was comatose the last week of his life and quietly slipped away Monday. It's so hard to believe that we lost our brother, then mom and now our father in less than seven months time. We are all hanging in there but its really tough. I'll be away from the blog for a while.

  11. You poor darlings, what a truly terrible burden of grief you have to carry. I lost my mother 10 years ago but at least my dad stayed with us for another 13 months. Having such close family ties broken in such tragic ways is very hard to deal with and you all will cry many tears.. However your very brave dad did what he could to ease the pain of your mum's passing before he let you know his own battle was almost over, what very great courage that took, a man to admire.. They will be together now in your hearts and memories and with your brother, so let life still go on without too much hurt.. it will ease, but you will never stop missing them, just know that we in blog land are thinking of you and praying for the hurt to ease a little so that you can function day by day.. God bless, Hugs from across the pond.. J

I am so, so sorry to hear about your Father's graduation to heaven. For whatever reason he did not want you all to worry about him, he remained focused on your

  32. Oh Karen, my heart is breaking for you. When I read your first sentence, remembering about your Mom's passing, I thought, oh dear, her Dad died of a broken heart. Then I was taken by surprise to hear he was ill. He must not have wanted anyone to worry about his being ill. You've got to admire him for that. I can only imagine your pain. I am so sorry. My thoughts & prayers are with you & your family.

  46. I can relate to how you feel, although my own experience was a long time ago now. In April of 1995 my father died, 3 months later my mother passed away and New Year's Day in 1996 my eldest sister died of cancer. It was a tough time, but I have to say the family pulled together. Hope you manage to work your way through. Lois

  48. Karin, I just found your blog, and then this post. A loss of an immediate family member is so very devastating, but to loose a second in such a short time cam make the grief seem insurmountable. One seems to cut more often, then you feel guilty about not grieving the other as you should. You loved them both beyond measure, but it seems that the grieving of both at once is too much to bear. I know that you are now 16 months out from your father's loss and only 19 short months past the loss of your mother, and I am sure that the pain can still sometimes be overwhelming.
I lost my mother on June 14, 2012 and then my husband on September 30th, 2012. Someone told me that it doesn't get better, it just gets...different; I don't know.
My prayers that our Lord will ease those times when the grief washes over you, and that He will use those times to bring you a new and wonderful memory of times spent with your parents.
