Acorns Wearing Sweaters and Flocking

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

I saw the most beautiful velvet acorns in the Better Homes and Gardens Christmas Magazine. As soon as I saw them I knew I wanted to make them. Not having velvet on hand I tried using an old sweater instead. Of course I had to add a little glitter to mine.

I cut circles from an old sweater stuffed them with fiberfill, tied the sweater circle at the top and glued the glittered acorn top to the stuffed circle.

I also decided to try flocking and glittering some natural acorns.

I used Martha Stewart's white flocking powder on the acorns and added snow glitter and silver glass glitter to the tops. They would be cute in a bowl or jar or added to a Christmas wreath. I cant believe I'm  doing Christmas projects. I'll be sharing with these great parties,

  28. I guess I missed the acorns in the zine you mentioned. Will have to look more carefully or you have a different zine than I do.
The acorns are so pretty and festive. Aren't you the clever gal for making those with a sweater.
I often have to substitute some thing beside what is used in a zine or what I see on a blog since I live out in country and a "run into town" just isn't possible all the time. I live about 20 miles from the nearest craft store. Makes me think tho and usually my "other than's" turn out pretty ok. Found you thru Diaper, Dinner & Design (think that's right blog). Signed up to subscribe right away. Will look forward to seeing what projects you make and what you're up to. Happy Weekend.
