Paper Wreath

Saturday, December 10, 2011

I showed you a little of this wreath in the  Magazine Copy Cat Challenge. I promised to do a post about it so here goes. First let me say that the lighting was terrible  annnnd the wreath fell off the wall while I was shooting the pics. I used one of those sticky hooks and followed the directions to the letter, I dont know what happened. So my poor wreath is a little bent  LOL.  Here is a full picture of my slightly banged up wreath.

I made this wreath using white construction paper. I love the ones made from book pages and music sheets, but I got the idea that a solid color white one would be pretty. I also got the idea to put a mirror in the center, sort of a wreath sunburst mirror hybrid lol, the mirror adds a little sparkle. So heres what I did. I bought a pack of 9x12 white construction paper, I folded each sheet in half length wise and tore it in half, then I tore each half in half, so that I got 4 pieces from each sheet. I used 25 full sheets and after tearing them in four pieces I ended up with 100 pieces of paper. I rolled each one into a cone...whew! all things considered it went pretty fast. I used a  thick Styrofoam wreath, I don't recomend this. I think its much better to use a flat surface, like a cardboard circle, I used the Styrofoam because I was adding the mirror and I thought the wreath form would add stability. Here is a progress shot. It shows the wreath form and the paint sticks that I glued to the wreath. I added the sticks because the mirror is smaller than the wreath opening and they provided a surface to glue the mirror to.

It wasn't until after I put the wreath together that I decided it needed a little bling, so I added silver glass glitter to the tips of the cones. I swirled the cones and made some stick out further than others.

I added paper lace around the edges of the wreath to hide where the cones met the mirror. Barring any major disasters I'll have pictures of my full vignette soon.

  7. Hi Karen! What a pretty wreath and the mirror in the center is a nice touch! 100 cones sounds like a lot but I bet you can make that while watching tv and it would go fast.

Thanks for joining my Bunny Hop!
