Weathered Carrier

Tuesday, August 7, 2012

I bought this carrier unfinished years ago from the craft store. Like a lot of things it's sat in my craft closet just waiting for me to do something with it. I've seen so many beautiful rustic tool carriers around blogland that I was  inspired to give mine a makeover, finally.

I dry brushed multiple coats of gray and white paint and wiped it back. I wanted a weathered look and this technique reminds me of driftwood. Here's what I stared with.

Before

I didn't sand it first because I think the roughness  adds to the weathered look.

After

I thought it would be a good place to hold my extra cloth napkins and the overflow of our everyday flatware.I always have more knives, forks and spoons than that drawer divider thingy can hold. It drives me nuts when there's overflow and you open the drawer and everything spills out of the dividers. I should have done this years ago and saved myself some aggravation lol.

  36. I think you've got that weathered look down and that ex voto is better then the copy. How clever to use candy molds. Maybe I need to check the cake decorating section out more:)

  41. I agree, not sanding it adds to the real driftwood look. The coloring mimic's that perfectly.
